biography

Stanley Edmondson
B. 1962, United States

Stanley Edmondson is an American sculptor, printmaker and painter. In 1986, he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from California State University in Los Angeles, California.

His first encounter with clay was at the age of four, when he threw his first pot with Malcolm ‘Mac’ McClain, a pioneer of ceramic art. Edmondson enjoys making large-scale sculptures, which he usually prepares with a few sketches.

Edmondson is inspired by avant-garde sculptors such as Peter Voulkos, John Mason, Henry Takemoto and Joe Soldate. Artists such as Jean Dubuffet, Joan Miró, Alexander Calder and Jean Michel Basquiat have also had a major influence on him.

Always in search of authenticity, he mixes his own clay and creates his own glazes. Over the years, he has taken part in numerous group and solo exhibitions.

Today, he lives and works in Pasadena, California.
