Emmanuel Combarel (b. 1966) and Dominique Marrec (b. 1967) are French architects renowned for their sensitive, contextual approach, combining creativity and rigor in architectural and urban planning projects.
Graduates respectively from the École d’Architecture de Paris-La Villette and the École d’Architecture de Paris-Belleville, they founded the ECDM agency together in 1993. Their work is characterized by a particular attention to use, materials and light, creating buildings that are both functional and poetic.
Among their most notable achievements are the Nanterre sorting center (2008), with its streamlined industrial aesthetic, and the Home apartment building in Paris (2012), conceived as an innovative response to urban density. They have also designed institutional projects such as media libraries, schools and sports facilities.
Winners of several awards, including the Équerre d’Argent, Combarel and Marrec are hailed for their ability to reinvent architectural typologies, while taking into account contemporary ecological and social issues. Their work is regularly exhibited and published, confirming their place among the leading figures in contemporary French architecture.
