Jean Nouvel (b. 1945) is a French architect of international renown, known for his bold designs that combine technological innovation with contextual sensitivity.
A graduate of the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he co-founded several agencies before founding Ateliers Jean Nouvel in 1994. His work is distinguished by a unique approach in which each project is conceived in dialogue with its environment, materials and culture.
Among his iconic achievements are the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris (1987), with its motorized moucharabiehs, the Agbar Tower in Barcelona (2005), and the Louvre Abu Dhabi (2017), with its spectacular perforated dome creating a “rain of light”. He has also designed residential buildings, towers and museums around the world, often collaborating with artists and designers.
Winner of the Pritzker Prize in 2008, Jean Nouvel is recognized as one of the leading figures in contemporary architecture, combining aestheticism, innovation and respect for local contexts. His projects continue to redefine the role of architecture in today’s world.
